the story behind ello
Our story
15 September 2025
Some places never quite let you go. For us, that place is Marinapark in Westende.
Elise’s grandfather bought a wooden bungalow there, for his grandchildren. A place outside the city, where they could cycle, roller-skate, and simply be children. Not big, not fancy, but year after year the place where the whole family came together. Children playing in the dunes, evenings on the terrace, fresh bread from the baker on the corner, and the smell of aftersun we’ll never forget. The park became a kind of second home. Year after year, summer after summer, in winter too, every long weekend.

The bungalow later passed to Elise’s father. Generation after generation it filled up: brothers and sisters, cousins, the friends from the park. Elise grew up there in summer, spring, autumn, and winter. They were warm memories she carried with her always, and that she dreamed of one day passing on to her own daughters.

But a bungalow becomes too small when the family grows. When Elise and Michael had the chance to buy their own little house in the same park, they took it. So they could be there while the rest of the family stayed in the parental bungalow. Shortly after, the house next door went up for sale. They bought that one too.
Not just to rent it out. But because they wanted to keep that feeling alive, and because they wanted to share it with families who, like them, are looking for something more than just a place to sleep.
Why ello is different
Elise is a mum of three, and she knows the feeling of arriving at a holiday home after a long drive only to have to make the beds first. Unpacking suitcases, hunting for sheets, children who are already done with the trip and now have to wait again before they can step outside. It is a small thing, but it takes something away from that first holiday feeling.
At ello we wanted to do it differently. When you arrive, the beds are made. The towels are ready. There are beach towels and a beach bag, so you don’t need to look for anything. The children find toys and storybooks. There are toiletries. You step inside, put down your bag, and you are immediately on holiday.
And then there are the things you would want at home but never quite get around to. A board game on a rainy afternoon. Baking cookies with the kids. A winter walk through the dunes without rushing. That is the promise we make to every family that stays with us.

The same care as at home
Alongside ello, we also run Hado Wonen, our full-service renovation company. It’s really an extension of what we do every day. We work with materials, finishes, and details that make the difference between good and truly good. You see that in how we’ve furnished the houses too. Interior design is something we are both deeply involved in, and you notice it in every corner: the right mattress, the right lighting, a kitchen you actually enjoy cooking in. Comfort is no accident.
We are not a hotel chain. We are Elise and Michael, and these are our houses. We look after them ourselves, we know every corner, and we are glad when you can call them home for a while.
Welcome to ello. Take it in.
